IAM 9.0: Advance notice of the major release
Airlock IAM 9.0: Prepare early for the next major release
Airlock IAM 9.0, the next major release, will be available in autumn 2027. With this release, several changes that have been announced for some time will take effect and require adjustments on your side.
We are informing you well in advance so that you have enough time to assess, plan and implement the necessary steps. The scope of the changes is significantly smaller than for the transition to IAM 8.0. Nevertheless, it is worth starting your preparations early.
What will change with IAM 9.0?
The biggest change concerns the Loginapp Design Kit, which will move to a new technological foundation. In addition, previously announced deprecations will take effect, particularly in the areas of configuration, REST APIs and the database schema.
Many of the necessary adjustments can already be implemented before IAM 9.0. This allows you to spread the migration across several steps rather than making all changes at once with the major release.
New Loginapp Design Kit: More flexibility for UI customization
We first informed you about the planned replacement of the Loginapp Design Kit in January 2026.
The current Loginapp Design Kit is based on technologies that will no longer be supported in the long term. We are therefore replacing it with a new, more flexible solution based on a standalone web application. This will also simplify customization.
The transition means that existing customizations will need to be reimplemented on the modernized foundation.
When is the migration required?
The new Loginapp Design Kit will become available with Airlock IAM 8.8 in spring 2027. To support the migration as effectively as possible, IAM 8.8 will allow you to choose whether to use the old or the new UI customization.
We recommend planning the migration with IAM 8.8. With Airlock IAM 9.0 in autumn 2027, the current Loginapp Design Kit will no longer be supported.
We strongly advise against maintaining the old frontend yourself, as the underlying Angular version will no longer be supported. Our Security Engineering & Consulting team will be happy to support you with the migration if required.
The new Loginapp Design Kit in detail
In the video, we present the new concept, explain the impact on existing customizations and use concrete examples to provide an outlook on how customization will work in the future.
Further breaking changes in Airlock IAM 9.0
In addition to the Loginapp Design Kit, further previously announced changes will take effect with IAM 9.0.
Configuration: YAML becomes the standard
With IAM 9.0, only the new YAML format will be supported for configuring Airlock IAM.
If you have not yet fully migrated your configuration to the new format, we recommend planning the migration before the major release.
REST APIs: Deprecated endpoints will be removed
Some REST API endpoints will no longer be supported with IAM 9.0. This may particularly affect existing single-page applications (SPAs), mobile apps or other REST clients.
We place great importance on stable interfaces. The APIs that will be removed with IAM 9.0 have therefore been marked as deprecated for some time, and the respective replacement APIs have already been available for several releases.
This means that affected integrations can be adapted and tested well in advance, independently of the major release.
Database schema: Make sure you are up to date
Changes to the database schema are delivered with IAM releases as required. With IAM 9.0, all schema adjustments provided up to that point must have been applied.
We therefore recommend consistently implementing the respective database migrations with every update.
What can you do today?
With Airlock IAM 8.8, we are already laying the foundation for a smooth transition to IAM 9.0. There is still more than a year until the major release. We recommend using this lead time to prepare the necessary adjustments step by step.
In particular, we recommend that you:
- Check whether your applications still use deprecated REST API endpoints.
- Migrate affected REST clients to the new REST API endpoints at an early stage.
- Keep your IAM installation and database schema up to date.
- Include the migration of your Loginapp customization in your planning for 2027.
- Plan an update to IAM 8.8 so that you can introduce the new Loginapp Design Kit before IAM 9.0.
This will allow you to complete a large part of the necessary work before the major release.
