Cloud

Cloud computing is a technology that makes it possible to provide programs and services via the Internet without having to run them on the local computer infrastructure. Essentially, the IT infrastructure, including computing power, storage space and applications, is hosted in the cloud, i.e. on remote servers, and provided via the internet.

Advantages of cloud computing

Cloud computing offers a wide range of possible applications, including

  1. Scalability and flexibility: companies can add or remove resources in the cloud as required, allowing for a flexible and scalable infrastructure. This is particularly useful for companies with changing requirements or seasonal peaks.
  2. Cost efficiency: By using cloud services, companies can reduce their IT costs as they do not have to purchase and maintain expensive hardware or infrastructure on site. Instead, they only pay for the resources they actually use.
  3. Data storage and backup: Cloud storage services allow companies to securely store and manage large amounts of data without having to worry about maintaining and backing up local storage systems. Cloud providers often also offer advanced security features and data protection measures to ensure the integrity and confidentiality of data.

There are different types of cloud environments, including

  • Public cloud: This is where IT resources are provided by a third-party provider and made publicly accessible via the internet. Examples of public cloud providers are Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Private cloud: In a private cloud, IT resources are provided exclusively for a single organization and are usually not publicly accessible. This gives companies more control and security over their data and applications.
  • Hybrid cloud: This environment combines elements of public and private clouds and allows companies to move their workloads between different cloud environments as required. This offers flexibility and scalability while maintaining control over sensitive data.

For companies that want to operate their IT infrastructure in the cloud, Airlock's Secure Access Hub offers a comprehensive security solution. With features such as Airlock IAM or Gateway, the Secure Access Hub provides a secure platform for deploying applications and services in the cloud.
