Some background
Battlefront was a nine-month long multiplatform project focusing on the endeavours of 20 teens as they worked to develop campaigns to change the world. The diverse mix of campaigning activity ranged from fighting knife crime on the streets of London to promoting random acts of kindness.
The Battlefront project included a television series and an integral digital offering comprising a central hub website and a strong presence across the web in social networks and the blogoshere.
Focus
Users were encouraged to support and generally immerse themselves in the the 20 core campaigns by sharing in the latest news & developments, blogs and video diaries. They were equally encouraged to start their own campaigns and to make use of the online resources including a campaigners handbook that gives users access to a panel of expert Battlefront mentors giving advice on all elements needed to put together a successful campaign.
The Battlefront site drew in content from across the web, creating a one-stop resource for all things campaigning-related, and then offered users innovative, easy ways to repurpose and redistribute this content themselves.
Awards and 2nd Series
The project won an International Digital Emmy in 2009 and was nominated for two BAFTAs. It has subsequently been commissioned for a second series that is running now.
